Accelerando

A term meaning gradually getting faster.

Adagio

A tempo marking indicating a slow pace.

Allegro

A term meaning fast.

Andante

A term meaning quite slow.

Lento

A term meaning very slow.

Moderato

A term meaning moderately fast

A term meaning gradually slowing down.

Articulation

The term for how the notes are played.

Staccato

Notes that are short and detached.

Legato

Notes that are smooth, with no gaps between them.

Accent

A symbol that indicates to play a note with extra force.

Pause

A symbol that indicates to hold a note or rest longer than its value.

Trill

A musical ornament where you quickly alternate between two adjacent notes.

Triad

A chord consisting of three notes: a root, a 3rd, and a 5th.

Major Triad

A chord with the 3rd note four semitones above the root.

Minor Triad

A chord with the 3rd note three semitones above the root.

Bass Clef

A musical clef indicating specific notes for lower pitch instruments.

Repetition

A common technique in music where a bar, line, or verse is repeated.

Riff

A short musical pattern that repeats over and over.

Ostinato

An extended pattern that repeats consistently.

Sequence

A pattern that is repeated at a higher or lower pitch.
