What are the Levels of classification

kingdom → phylum → class → order → family → genus → species

As we go down the levels of Classification, the more similar the organisms get as they are getting more closer to each other

2
New cards

Genus &Species

The genus and the species make up an organism’s binomial name (specific name). Binomial names are written in italics

3
New cards

What are the 5 Kingdoms

  • Animals

  • Plants -

  • Fungi -

  • Protoctists

  • Prokaryotes

4
New cards

What are some examples for Animals?

  • cats, dogs, beetles, birds, lions etc..

5
New cards

What are some examples for Plants?

roses, apple trees, types of grass, mango trees, grape vines, etc.

6
New cards

What are some examples for Fungi?

mushroom, mould, etc.

7
New cards

What are some examples for Protoctist?

  • Amoeba

  • Plasmodium

  • Chlorella

  • Paramecuim

8
New cards

What are some examples for Prokaryotes?

  • Bacteria

  • Lactobacillus

  • Tuberculosis bacterium

  • Salmonella( causes by a bacterium)

9
New cards

Why aren’t Viruses Considered Living?

Viruses are not considered living,
To reproduce, viruses must infect a host cell to make copies of themselves, meaning that they cannot do it independently. Also, they do not carry out metabolism such as respiration, growth or use of energy like living cells. From this, we can conclude that viruses are not living as they do not fulfil all life processes

10
New cards

Give some examples of Viruses

  • Influenza(flu)

  • HIV( human immune deficiency)

  • Measles

  • AIDS( acquired immunodeficiency syndrome)

11
New cards

Give some examples of Eukaryotic Organisms

  • Animals, Plants, Fungi, Protoctists

They all include their nucleus( also known as Membrane-bound nucleus)

12
New cards

Why aren’t Prokaryotic Organisms considered EUKARYOTIC?

  • Prokaryotic Organisms include bacteria, these organisms don’t have cells therefore they don’t have a nucleus

13
New cards

What does Autotrophic mean?

An organism hat makes its own food, turning inorganic compounds into organic compounds

14
New cards

What does Heterotrophic mean

They get their own nutritiono from feeding on other organism such as us humans, and animals
