Elected each year and their were two so not one person had much power

Members of the Senate hold position for life and there were 300 members

Protected the common people, both patricians and plebeians took part

Tribunes

They were officials elected by the assembly, had ability to veto actions by officials

Check and balance system

Was a system to prevent one of the three branches of government from getting more power
