  • Built things to show the houses history e.g oak staircase/Darnley room.Emily wanted to ‘show off’ the history the house.Made changes to make the house more Tudor-Jacobean.This is called antiquarianism.

  • Started coal mining-made the site more profitable through farming as well.However,she wanted to maintain the appearance of the site so banned any mining equipment to be visible from the house itself.
