Clause
A group of words that contains a subject and a predicate.
Independent Clause
A clause that contains a subject and a predicate, expresses a complete thought, and can stand alone as a sentence.
Dependent Clause
A clause that has a subject and a predicate but does not express a complete idea and cannot stand alone as a complete sentence.
Sentence Formation (Joining Clauses)
A dependent clause must be joined to an independent clause to form a complete sentence.

The man chased her away.
Example: Combined Clauses
Even when the cat caught three mice, the man chased her away.
