Extrapyramidal Symptoms (EPS)
Antipsychotic side effects that appear 1−8 weeks post-medication, including Akinesia, Shuffling gait, Drooling, AU-Fatigue, Mutie Rigidity, Mask-like facial expression, and Tremors.
Akinesia
An Extrapyramidal Symptom appearing 1−8 weeks post-antipsychotic medication.
Tardive Dyskinesia
Side effects of antipsychotics characterized by chewing and licking motions, as well as constant frowning and blinking.
Milieu therapeutic enviornment
A social and therapeutic environment that affects behavior, provides safety, and affords a feeling of acceptance.
Psychoanalysis
A result of Freuds Theory that works in the "past" or unconscious using free association, dream analysis, catharsis, and hypnosis.
Behavior modifications
A result of Skinner and Pavlov aiming to eliminate or reduce unwanted behaviors, based on the belief that learned behaviors can be "un-learned" or "re-learned" with positive reinforcement.
Rational Emotional Behavioral Therapy (REBT)
A form of cognitive therapy resulting from the work of Albert Ellis and other cognitive behavioral theorists.
Person-centered / humanistic therapy
A therapy based on the work of Maslow and Bogers that works in the "present."
Unconditional positive regard
A therapeutic concept attributed to Carl Rogers within person-centered therapy.
Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
A treatment for illnesses like depression and schizophrenia that are not responding to other therapy; requires the pt to be NPO for 4 hours with an empty bladder and monitored v/s.
Crisis Phase 1
Pre Crisis Initial Exposure.
Crisis Phase 3
Adaptive.
Diagnostic & statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-V (DSM-V)
A manual revised in 2013 used by psychiatrists and psychologists to determine criteria, suggest treatment (tx), and provide codes for determining fees for specific disorders.
DSM-V-TR
The revision of the DSM-V published in 2022.
OCD, PTSD, and Acute stress Disorder (DSM-V Changes)
Disorders that are no longer part of Anxiety Disorders and are now considered separate categories.
Panic disorder and agoraphobia (DSM-V Changes)
Two conditions that are now considered separate categories in the DSM-V.
Somatic Symptom Disorder (SSD)
A condition characterized by bodily symptoms that are distressing or result in significant disruption of functioning, accompanied by excessive and disproportionate thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Systematic desensitization
One of several treatments for anxiety, which also include psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, hypnosis, biofeedback, imagery, and CBT.
