Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
A functional gastrointestinal disorder characterized by diarrhea, constipation, or mixed bowel habits without a known organic cause.
Diverticulosis
A condition where small pouches form in the wall of the colon; can lead to diverticulitis if inflamed.
Diarrhea
The passage of at least 3 loose or liquid stools per day, often caused by infections.
Constipation
A syndrome defined by difficult or infrequent stools, often linked to a lack of fiber and dehydration.
Gastroenteritis
Inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, usually caused by viral, bacterial, or parasitic infections.
Polyps
Abnormal growths on the lining of the colon that can be benign or precursors to cancer.
Ulcerative Colitis
A chronic inflammatory condition of the colon characterized by ulceration of the colonic mucosa.
Crohn's Disease
A type of inflammatory bowel disease that can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract.
Celiac Disease
An autoimmune disorder triggered by ingestion of gluten, causing damage to the small intestine.
Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)
A condition where excessive bacteria are present in the small intestine, leading to nutritional deficiencies and other gastrointestinal symptoms.
Clinical Manifestations
The signs and symptoms observed in patients, guiding diagnosis and treatment.
Food Diary
A record kept by patients tracking food intake to identify potential trigger foods for gastrointestinal symptoms.
Antispasmodic Medications
Drugs used to relieve spasms in the gastrointestinal tract, often prescribed for IBS treatment.
FODMAP Diet
A diet low in fermentable carbohydrates that can help manage symptoms in patients with gastrointestinal disorders.
