Ovarian torsion
Partial or complete torsion of the ovary on its supporting ligaments that may compromise the blood supply.
Adnexal torsion
Refers to the involvement of the fallopian tube in ovarian torsion.
Risk factors for ovarian torsion
Ovarian mass, being of reproductive age, pregnancy, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.
Ovarian mass
Present in around 90% of cases of torsion, makes torsion more likely when the ovary is enlarged or heavier than usual.
Symptoms of ovarian torsion
Sudden onset of deep-seated colicky abdominal pain, often associated with vomiting and distress.
