Blessed are the poor in spirit

Those who are humble and recognize their spiritual need will have the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn

Those who grieve and feel sorrow for their sins will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek

The gentle and humble will inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness

Those who earnestly desire to live morally and seek justice will be fulfilled.

Blessed are the merciful

Those who show compassion and forgiveness will receive mercy.

Blessed are the peacemakers

Those who promote peace will be recognized as children of God.

Blessed are the pure in heart

Those who have a sincere and clean heart will see God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake

Those who suffer for doing what is right will have the kingdom of heaven.
