A force
Is any interaction that, when unopposed, will change the motion of an object
Internal force
Is a force set act between different parts of a single object or system
External force
Is any push or pull that acts on an object or system from outside its boundaries
Shear
Is forces acting parallel to a material surface, causing adjacent layers to slide past one another in opposite directions
Torsion
Is a twisting of an object or structural member caused by an applied torque (a rotational force)
Tension
The state of being stretched, strained, or tightly pulled
Compression
Is the process of applying pressure to a substance or an object to reduce its size volume or spatial dimensions
Sensor
Is a device at a tax changes in a physical chemical or biological environment and converts these stimuli into immeasurable signal (usually electrical or optical)
Ergonomics
The applied science of designing environments products and processes to fit the physical mental and organization needs of the user
Symmetry
A balanced and harmonious pattern where one side of an object is perfect reflection of the other, or matches it when flipped, folded or rotated
Aesthetics
The evaluation and appreciation of theories models and natural phenomena based on subjective feelings of beauty, elegance, and harmony
Static load
A mechanical force or weight applied gradually to an object or structure that remains constant over time.
Dynamic load
Any force apply to a structure or object that changes overtime, including variations and magnitude direction or position
Line of symmetry
An imagery line that divides a shape or object into two identical halves that are exact mirror images of each other
Suspension bridge
A type of bridge where the roadway (or deck) hangs below, large flexible, suspension cables
Beam bridge
The simplest and oldest type of bridge consisting of a horizontal (or girder) supported by vertical peers or abutments at each end
Arch bridge
Is a structure with a curved upwardly convex shape that uses a curved arch as its main load bearing component
Truss bridge
A lightweight yet rigged framework of straight structural members connected to form a series of triangles
Form
The physical shape structure or outward appearance of an organism object or system
Function
A specific role purpose, or mathematical relationship
Form follows function
A quarter biological principle stating that the physical shape structural or organization of a biological entity is directly correlated to the job it performs
