Form and structure of the poem remember

Is a petrachan sonnet that cosistes of 14 lines split into two sections called an octave a sestet with a rhyme scheme of ABBAABBA for the octave and CDDECE for the seestette. It contains 3 stanzas and is written in iambic pentametre to mirror natural converational speech

techniques used to express the writers feelings in the poem remember

repetition of the phrase ‘‘ remember me’’ to show the readers desire to be remembered by her loved ones

volta(lines 9) ‘‘ yet if you should forget me for a while…’’ , shows the change of tone of the poem and how she has finally accepted her death and now is priortising he loved ones peace not her greif knowing that she might not be remembered once she dies

Imperitive verbs( command words) ‘‘ remember me ‘‘ and ‘‘ do not greive’’ , implies that she has a set of instructions layed out for her loved one to follow about how to live their life , once she has ‘‘ gone away’’.

Metephor ‘‘ scielnt land ‘‘ reperesents peacfullness but also lonliness also suggesting distance and seperation

Euphemism- ‘‘ gone away’’

In Remember the writer talks about a dying woman who expresses her feelings of concern about her loved one not remembering her when she passes away.

similie- ‘‘ i weep like a child’’ this shows the speakers loss of masculininty due to the emotional and senstive memories that have flooded back to him after the ‘‘womens’’ singing, showing that he is reacting in a way a child would if there fav toy was taken away.

The repetition of the word ‘‘weep’’ reflecting the speakers feelings

contrast of the quotes ‘‘ cosy parlour’’ and ‘‘ winter outside’’ emphasises security and comfort that a family provides

Form and structure of poem

split into three stanzas of four lines. each line gradually gets longer , showing how he is lost in his childhood memories.

The poem is structure in rhyming couplets , evoking the harmonius sound of the womens singing and his mother’s piano playing ( e.g ‘‘ tingling strings’ and ‘‘ as she sings’

Uses caesura in the final stanza ‘‘ with the great black piano apassionato’’ this emphasises how the speaker is so lost in his memory of his youth that the womens crescendo means nothing to him
