Light is a form of
energy that travels in waves.

Reflect is to
strike a surface and bounce back in the opposite direction.

When light hits a smooth surface, it is reflected at
the same angle that it hit the surface.

Shadows
The absence of light.

When light hits a rough surface, light waves are scattered
unevenly and travel in many directions and angles.

Transparent materials
let light pass through. Examples: glass, plastic wrap, water, air.

Translucent materials
partially let light pass through. Examples: wax paper, thin fabrics, thin paper.

Opaque materials
do not let light pass through. Examples: metal, wood, bricks.

Mirrors reflect
light.

Concave is curved
inward. Light passes through concave lenses and spreads apart. Objects look smaller.

Convex is curved
outward. Light passes through convex lenses and bends toward itself. Objects look bigger.

Light is reflected from any
surface
