professional bodies
profs in hsc settings will all have differing job roles and standards they need to adhere to in order to be a successful practitioner.
all profs in HSC must register with their professional body and adhere to their standards.
professional bodies do the following:
set out codes of conduct / practice for the profs to follow.
they’re active in the development of the prof. (CPD)
deal with any complaints about the prof and can even strike the prof off of the register.
deal with whistleblowing and safeguarding issues referred from managers / patients.
expect staff to be revalidated - means they must complete a certain amount of hrs of CPD over a number of yrs to still be seen as fit to practice.
main professional bodies in hsc
GMC (General Medical Council) - regulate doctors.
NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) - regulate nurses and midwives.
HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) - regulate all other HSC profs from care workers to physios.
