to negate a phrase, place ne...pas around conjugated verb.

For passe compose or plusque parfat,

ne...pas around auxiliary verb

-Il n'pas fui la ville

More specific versions of ne...pas are

ne...pas du tout (not at all)

ne...pas encore (not yet)

Uses non plus to mean

neither or not either

to contradict a negative statement or question use

si instead of oui

To say neither...nor use

ne...ni...ni

place ne before conjugated verb or auxiliary and ni before words it modifies

--Il n'y a ni justice ni liberté dans une dictature

--Ni le juge ni l'avocat ne va juger l'accusé

It is also possible to combine several negative elements

On ne fait plus jamais rien.
