Albuterol (Ventolin)
A Bronchodilator known as a "Rescue inhaler" indicated to treat or prevent bronchospasms, open bronchi with Asthma, and treat wheezing and SOB in COPD.
Mometasone (Asmanex)
An Inhaled Corticosteroid used to decrease and prevent airway inflammation for maintenance of asthma.
Lisinopril (Zestril)
An ACE inhibitor that decreases vascular resistance by relaxing vessels to treat HTN.
Digoxin (Lanoxin)
A Cardiac Glycoside/Antiarrhythmic that slows and strengthens the myocardial contraction for treatment of dysrhythmias and CHF.
Nitroglycerin (Nitrostat)
A vasodilator/antianginal used for the treatment of angina/MI and as an adjunct treatment for CHF.
Epinephrine (Adrenalin)
An Adrenergic agent that increases contractility of the heart and causes bronchodilation and vasoconstriction; used in allergic reactions, cardiac arrest, and shock.
Albuterol Nursing Implications
Wait 1−2minutes between puffs of MDI and use a spacer to assist in delivery.
Mometasone administration sequence
Take bronchodilator first if prescribed and allow 5min before taking; always rinse mouth after use.
Lisinopril Nursing Implications
Check BP before admin and watch for signs of CHF/fluid overload, including weight and I and O.
Digoxin Toxicity symptoms
Confusion, irreg. pulse, fatal arrythmia, tachycardia, N/V diarrhea, and blurred vison.
Digoxin Heart Rate Requirement
Check apical pulse for 1min; hold if pulse is less than 60.
Digoxin Therapeutic level
The drug level should be between 0.5−2ng/mL.
Nitroglycerin SL administration
Given as a 0.4mg tab every 3−5minutes x3 for angina; store in a dark glass container.
Nitroglycerin IV administration
If on an IV Nitro drip, the patient must be on telemetry to monitor heart rate.
Epinephrine safety protocols
Have a second practitioner confirm correct dosage calculations and monitor BP, pulse, and urine output.
Mometasone side effects
Oral fungal infection, pharyngitis, rhinitis and sinusitis, bronchospasm, cough and wheezing.
Lisinopril side effects
Orthostatic Hypotension, Cough, Dizziness, Fatigue, HA, blurred vision, and angioedema.
