What is a noun?
A word that names a person, place/time, thing, animal, or idea.
In the sentence 'The teacher explained the lesson,' identify the nouns.

What is a pronoun?
A word that takes the place of a noun.
In the sentence 'I like spicy cheese,' identify the pronoun.

What is an action verb?
A verb that tells what the subject is doing (e.g., run, jump, write, sing).

What is a linking verb?
A verb that connects the subject to more information (e.g., is, am, are, was, were, being, be, been).

What is a helping verb?
A verb that works with the main verb to show time or possibility (e.g., will, have, is, can, should).

In the sentence 'She runs to the bus stop every morning,' what type of verb is 'runs'?
Action verb.

In the sentence 'He is funny,' what type of verb is 'is'?
Linking verb.

In the sentence 'He is traveling to Asia,' what type of verb is 'is'?
A helping verb, as it works with the main verb 'traveling' to show time or possibility.

What is an adjective?
An adjective describes a noun or pronoun; examples: red, small, beautiful.
In the sentence 'Susan wore a red jersey,' what part of speech is ‘red’?
adjective, it is describing the noun ‘jersey’
What is an adverb?
An adverb describes a verb, adjective, or another adverb; often ends in -ly; examples: quickly, very, well.
In the sentence 'Jason slowly walked to the classroom,' what part of speech is ‘slowly’?
adverb, it describes the verb ‘walked’

A word used before a noun; examples: a, an, the.
What is a preposition?
A word showing the relationship between a noun/pronoun and another word; often tells where something is, when something happens, or its direction (examples: in, on, under, over).

In the sentence 'The cat hid under the bed,' name a preposition.

What is the function of adjectives?
To describe a noun.
What is the function of adverbs?
To describe a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.
How can you test whether a verb is a linking verb?
Try replacing it with '='; if the sentence still makes sense (e.g., 'He is funny' → 'He = funny').
How can you identify a helping verb in a sentence?
It works with the main verb to show time or possibility (e.g., 'is' in 'She is running late' helps the main verb 'running').
