Anarchy
The absence of any governmental authority leading to disorder, confusion, and chaos

Democracy
The people hold the power to rule. The people meet to make all the decisions. Two types: (1) direct and (2) representative.

Dictatorship
One person (dictator) holds all power. Usually this person is backed by the military.

Monarchy
A government with a king or a queen. Two types: (1) constitutional and (2) absolute.

Oligarchy
The power is held by a small group of people; usually this
group is based on social class or wealth.

Theocracy
A government in which the society is ruled by religious leaders.

Autocracy
Government by one person having unlimited power; dictatorship or monarchy.

Direct Democracy
Government in which all citizens vote on all important laws and select officials directly

Representative Democracy
A system of government in which citizens elect representatives, or leaders, to make decisions about the laws for all the people.

Absolute Monarchy
A political system in which a country is ruled by a monarch (king or queen), who has total control. The next in line is a child of the king/queen.

Constitutional Monarchy
Government in which a king or queen is the official head of state, but elected officials run the government. Monarch has very little actual power.

Republic
A form of government in which the people select representatives to govern them and make laws. This is a synonym of democracy.

Government
The system through which a society organizes important tasks, makes and enforces laws, and decides how its citizens' rights will be handled.

Authoritarian Government
A government in which one leader or group of people does not allow freedom of speech, press, or religion to the citizens and controls what they can and can't have.
Freedom of religion
The ability to choose what you believe and how you will worship

Republic
A form of government in which citizens choose their leaders by voting
junta
a military group ruling a country after seizing power by force
freedom of speech
the right to express any opinions without censorship or restraint.
freedom of the press
the right of journalists to publish the truth without restriction or penalty
