Squamous Cell Papilloma
A benign tumor arising from an epithelial surface, typically growing outward.
Bronchial
Pertaining to the bronchi, the major air passages of the lungs.
Hemoptysis
The coughing up of blood or blood-stained mucus.
Verrucoid
Resembling wart-like growths.
Pedunculated
A tumor with a stem or stalk.
Metaplasia
The replacement of one differentiated cell type with another mature differentiated cell type.
Hyperplasia
Abnormal proliferation of cells.
Dysplasia
The abnormal development or growth of cells, tissues, or organs.
Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Malignant tumor arising from epithelial cells with squamous differentiation.
Keratinization
The formation of keratin, a fibrous structural protein.
Intercellular Bridges
Bridging structures between cells, visible under a microscope.
Hematogenous Spread
The spread of cancer cells from the primary site to distant organs via the bloodstream.
Mediastinum
The space within the chest between the lungs, containing the heart, major blood vessels, trachea, and esophagus.
Keratin Pearls
Resembling fish eggs.
Cellular Atypia
Abnormal changes in cell structure.
Nuclear Atypia
Atypical cell nuclei.
Mitosis
Cell division.
IHC
Immunohistochemistry: the method used to detect proteins in cells of a tissue section.
Eosinophilic
Having a great affinity for eosin.
Necrosis
Death of cells or tissues.
Alveolar Adenoma
A well-defined tumor consisting of cystic spaces lined by type II pneumocytes.
Peripheral Tumors
Tumors located at the outer areas of the lung.
Lung Adenocarcinoma
Lung cancer that arises from the glands of the lungs.
Alveolar
Pertaining to the alveoli, air sacs of the lung.
Peripheral
Situated away from the center.
Dyspnea
Difficulty in breathing.
Paraneoplastic Syndromes
Clinical syndromes involving nonmetastatic systemic effects that accompany malignant disease.
Angiogenesis
The formation of new blood vessels.
Small Cell Carcinoma
Lung cancer composed of small, round-to-oval cells
Combined Small Cell Carcinoma
A cancer that has features of both small cell and non-small cell lung cancer.
