Licensure Examination Requirement
All applicants for registration to practice pharmacy must pass a licensure examination unless exempted.
Qualifications for the Licensure Examination
Must be a citizen, of good moral character, a degree holder in Pharmacy, and completed an approved internship.
Scope of Examination
Covers various subjects in Pharmacy Science and Practice including chemistry, pharmacology, and pharmaceutical administration.
Examination Frequency
The Pharmacists Licensure Examination is held two times a year as designated by the PRC.
Passing Rate for Licensure Examination
Candidates must obtain a general weighted average of 75% with no score below 50% in any subject.
Refresher Program Requirement
Candidates failing the exam three times must complete a refresher program before retaking.
Report of Rating
The Board submits candidates' ratings to the PRC within three working days after the exam.
Oath of Profession
Successful examinees must take an oath before practicing as pharmacists.
Certificate of Registration (COR)
Issued to passers of the licensure exam, certifying eligibility to practice pharmacy.
Professional Identification Card (PIC)
Issued to registrants, renews every three years upon showing of completion of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.
Affixing RPh
The title 'RPh' can only be used by licensed pharmacists.
Display of Certificate of Registration
Pharmacists must display the original COR prominently in their workplace.
Dispensing/Sale of Pharmaceutical Products
No pharmaceutical products can be dispensed without a licensed pharmacist except in emergencies.
Pharmacist Requirement for Establishments
Certain establishments must employ licensed pharmacists for supervision.
Category A Establishments
Require direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist for operations involving prescription medicines.
Category B Establishments
Require oversight by licensed pharmacists, typically selling OTC drugs.
Partial Filling of Prescription
Allowed under dispensing guidelines; pharmacists must keep records.
Physician's Sample
Free pharmaceutical products given to professionals cannot be sold to the public.
Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
Standards that must be followed for compounding and dispensing medicines.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements
Ongoing education that must be completed to maintain PIC.
