Admiral (ADM) Rank
The highest commissioned officer rank listed for the US Navy, designated as 0−10.
Ensign (ENS) Rank
The lowest commissioned officer rank for the US Navy, designated as 0−1.
Justice
A leadership trait defined as the practice of being fair and consistent, basing rewards or punishment on merit.
Judgment
The ability to think about things clearly, calmly, and in an orderly fashion to make good decisions.
Dependability
Being relied upon to perform duties properly and trusted to complete a job; the willing and voluntary support of chain of command policies.
Initiative
Taking action even though you have not been given orders; meeting new and unexpected situations with prompt action.
Decisiveness
The ability to make good decisions without delay by acting calmly and quickly after weighing all facts.
Tact
Dealing with people in a manner that maintains good relations and avoids problems by being polite, calm, and firm.
Integrity
Being honest and truthful in what you say or do, putting sound moral principles above all else.
Enthusiasm
A sincere interest and exuberance in the performance of duties; being optimistic, cheerful, and willing to accept challenges.
Bearing
The way you conduct and carry yourself; reflects alertness, competence, confidence, and control.
Unselfishness
Avoiding making yourself comfortable at the expense of others and being considerate of others.
Courage
Remaining calm while recognizing fear; includes moral courage (standing up for what is right) and physical courage (functioning in physical danger).
Knowledge
The understanding of a science or art; acquiring information and understanding people, unit policies, and current events.
Loyalty
Devotion to country, the Navy and Marine Corps, and to seniors, peers, and subordinates.
Endurance
Mental and physical stamina measured by the ability to withstand pain, fatigue, stress, and hardship.

Hierarchy of Loyalties (Principle I)
The order to resolve ethical conflicts: Constitution, Mission, Service, Ship or Command, Shipmate, and Self.
Constitutional Paradigm Principle IV
The principle allowing one to choose to disobey if an ethical issue is too important and immediate, provided four prerequisites are met.
