Addiction Severity Index (ASI)
A standard interview tool used to assess problem areas related to substance use in clients.
Seven Potential Problem Areas
The seven areas include: Medical, Employment/Support Status, Alcohol, Drug, Legal, Family/Social, and Psychiatric.
Cumulative Items

Patient Rating Scale
A scale from 0 to 4 used by patients to denote how bothered they have been by problems in each section.
Confidence Ratings
Ratings to assess whether the information provided by the patient is distorted due to misrepresentation or inability to understand.
Hollingshead Categories
A classification system for occupations ranging from higher executives to unskilled labor.
Intoxication Definition
Defined as the use of alcohol or drugs to the point where the individual feels effects such as a 'buzz' or 'high'.
Regular Use
Described as using a substance three or more times per week or experiencing problematic irregular use.
Legal Status
Assessment of the client’s involvement with the criminal justice system, including arrests and charges.
Psychiatric Status
Evaluation of the patient's mental health history, including treatment for psychological issues.
