Lever
A rigid bar that pivots on a fixed point called a fulcrum, used to move an object by applying force.
Fulcrum
The fixed point on which a lever pivots.
Effort
The force applied to a lever or simple machine.
Load
The object being moved by a lever or simple machine.
Pulley
A simple machine featuring a wheel on an axle with a groove for a rope or cable, used to make lifting or lowering loads easier.
Directional Change (Fixed Pulley)
The movement occurring when you pull down on the rope of a fixed pulley attached to a ceiling, resulting in the load moving upward.
Block and tackle
A system using two pulleys that makes lifting a heavy box easier than using just one, providing mechanical advantage.
Flagpole
A real-world item that primarily uses a pulley.
Nutcracker
A real-world item that primarily uses a lever.
