What are some key points on human nature?
*sex and gender, equality vs difference
LF - Idea of male superiority is constructed and social pressure. Education & equality of education to combat attitudes. Existentialism (only happy when we have own identity). "The problem with no name".
RF - deeper rooted issues within family and private sphere. Radical revolution and reform needed.
SF - human nature not only shaped by patriarchy but also by capitalism. Must be fixed either by reform or revolution.
PM - dominance and subordination in all relationships. Human nature is a product of many overlapping identities.
What are some key points on society?
*sex and gender, patriarchy, intersectionality, personal is political
LF - society not fundamentally patriarchal but superficially, society has pressured us into these unnatural gender roles. Patriarchy can't be accessed in private sphere. Act through legislation and equality of opportunities.
RF - patriarchy fundamental part of society, main hub in nuclear family must be tackled first. Women financially dependent on men makes it hard to break free. Change must be revolutionary
SF - gender roles also assigned for capitalist gain such as beauty myth. Affects different classes differently. Home life affected as women used as cheap labour.
PM - so many interlinking factors for discrimination. Patriarchy doesn't just affect women. Therefore critical of Betty Friedan and other second wave feminists.
