Sonography
The primary tool for confirmation of pregnancy.
Panniculus
An apron of excess skin and fat hanging from the abdomen below the waistline.
Polyhydramnios
An excessive amount of amniotic fluid.
Oligohydramnios
A deficiency of amniotic fluid.
Gestational age
The age of the fetus calculated from the first day of the last menstrual period.
Fetal presentation
The position of the fetus in relation to the birth canal, such as vertex or breech.
Biometry
The measurement of the fetus's size and growth parameters.
Amniotic fluid index (AFI)
A quantitative measure of amniotic fluid to assess fetal well-being.
Fetal lie
The direction the fetus is positioned in the uterus, such as longitudinal or transverse.
Bradycardia
A slow heart rate, specifically <120 beats per minute in a fetus.
Tachycardia
A rapid heart rate, specifically >160 beats per minute in a fetus.
Chorionic membranes
Membranes that form around the fetus, which can be either fused or separate in multiple pregnancies.
Biparietal diameter (BPD)
A measurement of the fetal head from one parietal bone to the other.
Placenta previa
A condition where the placenta is located near or over the cervix.
Placental abruption
A condition where the placenta detaches from the uterus before delivery.
Fetal anomalies
Abnormalities in the fetus that can be detected through imaging.
Situs
The arrangement of internal organs in the fetus.
