genome + genome sequencing
-the complete set of genes in a cell
-identifying DNA base sequence to then determine amino acid sequence of proteins
proteome
the full range of proteins that a cell is able to produce
sequencing proteomes from genomes
-simple organisms = have little non-coding DNA so easy to determine proteome → able to identify potential antigens on surface of bacteria/viruses for use in vaccine production
-complex organisms = have lots of non-coding DNA + complex regulatory genes so harder to translate proteome from genome
sequencing methods
was originally manual e.g. Chain Termination but is now automated so can sequence whole genome quickly
