the inventor of the printing press (moveable type). the first thing he printed was the a Bible known as the Gutenburg Bible

books were copied by hand only allowing the elitist access (so less audience reached before the printing press)

the printing press was an easier way to print allowing for books to be printed WAY faster reaching a wider audience (not just the elitists)
led to the growing of European literacy rates from 1475-1650
increased the demand for more reading material especially vernacular literature (books in many languages)
