IVF has been permissible for Sunni Muslims since the Egyptian fatwa of 1980.
1999 Fatwa from Iran’s Shi’a Ayatollah Ali Hussiein Khamanei deliberated that third-party donation to IVF is permissible. Shi’a practice also allows ‘muta marriage’, a temporary marriage in which men can marry the third-party donation with the wife’s permission.
