What is Simplicity?
Avoid jargon or big words people may not understand
What is a double barreled question?
Asking two things at once that may make the question more confusing
Ex: “how satisfied are you with your job and pay?”
What is Loaded/Leading questions?
Questions that lead the person to respond in one way
Ex: “have you stopped beating your wife?”
What is negative wording?
Negative phrasing that may show how you feel about the question and what you want them to answer
Ex: “Do you feel that UNE should not build a new dormitory?”
What is Yay-saying and Nay-saying?
All the questions are yes responses or no responses so you have to change the format so some are yes and some are no
What is simple random sampling?
Every person of the population has a chance to be selected for the survey
Ex: computer randomly generates phone numbers
What is stratified random sampling?
Population is divided into subgroups and people are randomly chosen from each group
What is cluster sampling?
Identify clusters of individuals and then randomly sample from those clusters
Ex: each class someone has enrolled in is a cluster so choose randomly from that cluster
What is Haphazard (connivence) sampling?
Take them where you can find them method meaning take wherever you can
Ex: standing in Dhall and asking people to take them
What is Purposive sampling?
Obtain people who meet certain criteria
Ex: want people who are knowledgeable in gaming only for a gaming survey so 30+ hours on games
What is Quota sampling?
Reflects the actual numbers of the population and don’t go over the number or under similar to stratified in the fact that you pick someone from a group
