Academic Text
A formal type of writing produced by professionals in a specific field, which is well-edited, uses field-specific jargons, contains references, and aims to advance human understanding.
Non-academic Text
A type of text written for the mass public that is published quickly, uses informal or conversational language, and is often personal, emotional, or subjective in nature.
Jargons
Words and terms specific to a particular field that are commonly used in academic texts.
Descriptive Academic Text
A type of academic writing that provides facts and information to identify, report, record, summarize, or define a subject.
Analytical Academic Text
A type of academic writing that organizes facts and information into categories, groups, parts, or relationships through analysis, comparison, and contrast.
Persuasive Academic Text
A type of academic writing that includes an argument, recommendation, or evaluation supported by evidence to persuade the reader to a specific point of view.
Critical Academic Text
A text that requires the consideration of at least 2 points of view, including the author's own, involving critique, debate, disagreement, and evaluation.
Audience
The specific group or individuals for whom a text is being written.
Purpose
The specific reason or goal behind why a text is being written.
Organization
The factor of academic writing concerned with how ideas are arranged or structured within the text.
Style
The specific techniques or methods used by an author to write a text.
Flow
The quality of how well an author expresses and connects ideas throughout a text.
