Adsorption Sites
Specific locations on a surface where atoms or molecules can adhere.
Multiplicity
The number of different ways atoms can occupy the available sites, denoted as g(CN, NE) = N! / (NE!(N-NE)!).
Entropy (S)
A measure of the disorder or randomness in a system, particularly in thermodynamics.
Interaction Energy
The energy associated with the interactions between adsorbed atoms or molecules and the surface.
Maximizing Entropy
The process of finding conditions under which the entropy is maximized, typically resulting in equal distribution of particles across available states.
Differentiation
A mathematical process used to find the rate at which a function is changing at any given point, often set to zero to find maxima.
Y Ratio
The ratio of the number of adsorbed atoms (NE) to the total number of sites (N), which determines occupancy.
Approximation for Large N
A mathematical simplification that applies when the number of particles (N) is large, allowing for easier calculations.
