Stress
What we feel in situations we find difficult, challenging, or even frightening, especially when we feel we cannot cope.
Good Stress
Stress that makes you ready for action by providing adrenalin and energy, typically for a short term, such as speaking in front of a class.
Bad Stress
Unhealthy stress that exceeds your ability to cope, potentially leading to illness, unhappiness, depression, and poor task performance.
Stressor
Anything, event, or person that triggers stress.
Cortisol
A stress hormone produced by fear that results in anxiety.
Adrenalin
A stress hormone that prepares the body to react physically to a threat.
Personal Mission Statement
A description of an individual's values, dreams, attitudes, and goals used to explore and identify what is important to them.
Values
The things that an individual chooses and that are important in their life, serving as the code by which they live.
Belief System
The way a person tries to understand the world and their place in it, including their set of beliefs about what is right and wrong.
Ideologies
An organized set of beliefs, values, and ideas regarding how one should live and how society should operate, such as democracy or nationalism.
Formative Assessment
A type of assessment that happens while working on a task to help the learner and teacher determine how the student is coping.
Summative Assessment
An assessment that occurs at the end of a term, chapter, or project to measure management over a period of time.
SQ3 Method
An effective study technique that stands for Survey, Read, Recall, and Review.
Analyse
To break up into separate parts and discuss, examine, interpret, explore, and investigate each part while explaining how they are linked.
Unemployment
The state of being willing to work, ready for work, and wanting a job, but unable to get one because there are not enough jobs available.
Volunteering
Giving time and skills to help others without expecting payment, which helps build confidence and explore career interests.
Entrepreneur
A person who takes an idea or opportunity, accepts financial risks, and turns it into a profitable enterprise.
Income Tax
A tax levied on all income and profits received by taxpayers, which serves as the government's main source of revenue.
Tax Threshold
The income level (R63556 a year) below which an individual is not required to pay income tax.
Responsible Citizenship
Fulfilling the duties of a citizen, such as respecting human rights, being concerned for the welfare of others, and obeying the law.
Bill of Rights
A cornerstone of democracy in South Africa that outlines the basic human rights all people in the country should enjoy and respect.
Electronic Media
Media requiring electricity or batteries, including the Internet, emails, social media (Facebook, Twitter), radio, TV, and DVDs.
Print Media
Media including books, newspapers, magazines, pamphlets, brochures, posters, and billboards.
Freedom of Expression
The right to express ideas and opinions freely through speech, writing, and other forms of communication, within constitutional limits.
Statutory Rape
Unlawful sex with an individual under the age of consent (16 years).
Lifestyle Diseases
Diseases resulting from the way a person lives, influenced by factors like diet, smoking, and lack of exercise, such as diabetes or heart disease.
Natural Disaster
A sudden event caused by nature, such as fires, floods, tsunamis, or earthquakes, that causes great damage or loss of life.
Environmental Hazard
A danger, risk, or threat usually caused by humans, such as pollution, toxic waste, or deforestation.
Labour Relations Act (LRA)
A law that covers all interaction between employers and employees, trade unions, and employers' organizations.
Work Ethics
A worker's attitude towards their job and employer, involving accountability, honesty, commitment, and respect.
