all 8 hospitals destroyed, relied heavily on international aid - country still in recovery. Road closures etc made it difficult to get into the country and diseases broke out from an aid worker. 8 billion cost, 200k dead, 1 mil homeless and 2 million left without necessary resources.
boxing day tsunami
had a huge impact as it affected 2 continents and over 12 countries hit. Roughly 230 k dead, with the tsunami causing the most damage. 1.7 million homeless, 13 billion in damages - outbreak of disease but DART warning system was put into place

no deaths, 4.5 million tonnes of CO2 released, and impacted over 20 countries. increased tourism - set up a museum, 800 local residents evacuated and 7 mil stranded worldwide, airlines lost 130 mil each day . 100k flights cancelled
Japan 2011
18 k dead, 130k displace. 4 mil were left without power and 450k became homeless. cost was 235, disrupted supply chains - nuclear power plant meltdown. Japan able to mitigate due to fast response, strict building codes etc.

185 dead, 8% of water and sewage system damaged. 10k homes demolished - tourism took a huge hit as international tourism night stayed reduced by 30%. Cost $30 billion loss and NZ dollar fell
Siuchan
70k casualties - 1/3 were children and the chinese gov liften the one child policy. 80% of buildings collapsed - first time the gov asked for international aid to cover the $140 billion. Price of oil dropped due to reduced demand - landslides destabilised regions, hard to get aid in. Dams and chemical factories were hit furthering the casualty rate.
