Race
The physical characteristic of a person that can be used to categorize them into distinct groups, often based on skin color, facial features, and hair type. Race is a social construct that has significant implications for identity, social status, and experiences.
Ethnic Group
A community of people who share a common cultural background, language, and heritage, often influencing their identity and social interactions.

majority ethnic group
A group that holds a dominant position in society, typically enjoying more privileges, resources, and influence within a given cultural or political context than minority groups.
minority ethnic groups
groups that have less power and fewer resources compared to the majority group that is preset. this does not always necessarily mean the group is smaller than the dominant group that is present, as the minority could outnumber the majority yet still hold little to no power
prejudice
a negative attitude based on preconceived notions about members of selected groups
Racial Prejudice
Racial Prejudice: involves beliefs that certain racial groups are innately inferior to others or have a disproportionate number of negative traits
ethnocentrism
the tendency to regard one’s own culture and group as the standard, and thus superior, whereas all other groups are seen as inferior.

overgeneralizations about the appearance, behaviour or other characteristics of members of particular groups.
scapegoat
a person or group that is incapable of offering resistance to the hostility or aggression of others

Discrimination

legal discrimination which is encoded in laws, e.g., the Chinese Exclusionary Act, parts of the Indian Act. think racism but the government somehow passed a law to reinforce it with tungteign balls and cast iron shaft.

informal discrimination which is entrenched in social customs and institutions
