What is meant by the usability of websites?
How easy it is for users to read, navigate and interact with a website.
What are key elements to consider for good website navigation?
Menu system should be easy to locate and identify, links should be short and descriptive, there should be no 'broken' links, and links should be formatted in a consistent way.
What is web page layout?
How the various elements of a web page are arranged, including hierarchy of information, presentation (headings, blocks), use of columns, picture placement, and fitting page contents to standard monitor sizes and resolutions.
What is responsive design?
A web design approach that allows a website to automatically adapt its layout, images, and text so that it displays correctly on different devices.
What is typography in web design?
The appearance of text, which should use fonts that are easy to read and match content, commonly-used fonts likely present on the user's system, and avoid using too many different font types.
What is readability on a website?
How easy it is to engage with the website and understand its information.
What factors contribute to good readability on a website?
Good layout (related ideas grouped logically), a clear visual hierarchy, good typography, language level appropriate to the target audience, clear and concise text, and backgrounds/colours that are easy on the eye.
What is consistency in website design?
Ensuring the 'look and feel', and structure of all pages on the site are the same, including the same colours and overall theme, as well as the same basic layout and typography on all pages.
