Selecting candidates - Choosing politicians to be selected, can be deselected such as Sam Tarry in 2022
Electing a leader - Boris 2/3 members vote in 2019
Policy formulation - Must fairly represent the views of a party
Campaigning - Deliver leaflets etc
Representation - Ensure the voice for all groups in society, 75% said either Lab or Con represented their political opinions in 2019

Party Funding

Membership - Reform has most 268k, Green 216k, Lab down by almost 200k since 2022
Donations - 2024 - 9.5m Lab, 1.9 m Tory (10% of 2019)
Short money - Gov granted money to pay for opposition parliamentary, Lab 6.6m 2021

For and against state funding

For - Fairer, huge inequalities between parties, private donations are unclear and illegitimate

Against - Increasing public costs, membership is genuine support, not needed full state funding
