Set point
The ideal value or range for a physiological variable that the body strives to maintain.
Negative feedback
A mechanism that counteracts a change, restoring the system to its set point.
Positive feedback
A mechanism that enhances or increases changes; the output of a process amplifies the initial stimulus.
Pathway
The sequence in which a stimulus is detected by sensory receptors, processed by a control center, and translated into a response by effectors.
Anatomical Terms
Terminology used to describe the location and position of structures in the body, which includes terms of origin from Latin, Greek, and eponyms.
Anatomical position
The standard position of the body used as a reference in anatomy, where the body stands upright, facing forward, with arms at the sides and palms facing forward.
Axial region
The part of the body that includes the head and trunk, excluding the limbs.
