Schengen Area

A group of European countries where internal border checks have largely been abolished.

Ramp

The platform area where airplanes are parked and boarded.

Airside

The area of the airport accessible to passengers after security screening.

Landside

The area of the airport accessible to the general public before security screening.

Pushback

The procedure of moving an aircraft backwards from its parking position.

Air Traffic Control (ATC)

A service that coordinates the movement of aircraft on the ground and in the air.
