Popular sovereignty
The authority of a state and its government is created and sustained by the consent of its people.
democratic elections in the us can be seen as popular sovereignty since if a certain party loses they havent gained the consent of the people to govern.
Self determination
A group of people with a commonality has the right to form a government and govern themselves
Internal Sovereignty
The power of a state to govern its own territory and population.
Syrian civil war shows this as the government lost control over its territory to rebel groups and external actors
External soverignty
The recognition of a state's independence by other states and internal organizations.
Supranationality
A type of IGO where member states transfer power to a higher authority that can make binding decisions
The European Central Bank which has member states all across EU, has to pay a set interest rate.
Transnationalism
Social, economic, or political activities that happen across borders and bypass state control.
Legitimacy
An actor or a government that is accepted by the people in terms of providing input for gov related decisions or exercising power
