Lived Experience
Personal knowledge gained through direct involvement in a specific event, context, or situation, particularly in relation to mental health challenges.
Stigma
Negative attitudes and beliefs about mental health, leading to shame and discrimination against individuals with mental health conditions.
Glycolysis
The biochemical pathway that converts glucose into pyruvate, producing ATP and NADH as energy currency for the cell.
ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate)
The primary energy carrier in cells, produced during glycolysis and other metabolic pathways.
NADH
A reduced form of NAD+ that acts as an electron carrier in cellular respiration, generated during glycolysis.
Energy Investment Phase
The initial phase of glycolysis that consumes ATP to phosphorylate glucose and its intermediates.
Payoff Phase
The second phase of glycolysis that produces ATP and NADH, resulting in the conversion of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate to pyruvate.
Phosphorylation
The addition of a phosphate group to a molecule, often to activate enzymes or increase reactivity.
Self-Doubt
A lack of confidence in oneself, often a result of mental health challenges, leading to feelings of inadequacy.
Positive Psychology
An approach to psychology that focuses on the strengths and virtues that enable individuals and communities to thrive.
Cyclic Pathways
Metabolic pathways that can operate in both directions, allowing for substrate and product flexibility.
Systemic Harm
Long-term adverse effects produced by systems or structures that perpetuate inequality and omit necessary support.
Recovery
The process of overcoming mental health challenges and improving well-being through support, experience, and treatment.
