Purpose of the Beers Criteria

• Barrets esophagus - consistently have GERD, acid in stomach goes up into esophagus and causes damage. The body tries to protect itself by replacing it w cells in the stomach - this leads to a high risk of esophageal cancer - should treat Barrets esophagus (control it) to prevent cancer
