Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) Treatment
A triple therapy consisting of Ceftriaxone, Doxycycline, and metronidazole.
Vaginal Candidiasis Treatment
miconazole (OTC) or Fluconazole (Rx).
Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) Treatment
metronidazole or clindamycin.
Trichomoniasis Treatment
metronidazole.
Prostatitis (STI/Age <35) Treatment
Ceftriaxone and Doxycycline.
Prostatitis (Non-STI/Age >35) Treatment
Fluoroquinolones such as levofloxacin or ciprofloxacin.
Syphilis Treatment
IM Penicillin G (Alternative: Doxycycline).
Dysmenorrhea Management
NSAIDs or birth control.
Kidney Stone Passage
Tamsulosin (an alpha blocker) facilitates stone passage; NSAIDs or Opioids are used for pain.
Kleinfelter syndrome
A genetic condition characterized by an extra X chromosome (XXY), resulting in a tall male with small testes, infertility, and gynecomastia; treated with TESTOSTERONE replacement.
GBS positive in pregnancy
Requires IV penicillin G administered during labor. PCN allergy: IV clindamycin
CAMP (Antibiotics safe in pregnancy)
Cephalosporin, amoxicillin, macrolides/marobid, and penicillin.
Avoid bactrim and macrobid when during pregnancy
Avoid bactrim and macrobid (nitrofurantoin) in the 1st semester and also macrobid in 3rd semester
Mastitis Treatment
Dicloxacillin; use Clindamycin or Keflex (Cephalexin) if the patient has a penicillin allergy.
Uncomplicated UTI Treatment
Nitrofurantoin (Macrobid); Alternatives include Ciprofloxacin, Levofloxacin, Bactrim, or Fosfomycin.
UTI in pregnancy
Cephalexin or amoxicillin; nitrofurantoin is acceptable after the 1st trimester and before 36 weeks (avoid in late pregnancy/after 36 weeks).
UTI in children >2
Cephalosporin or alt bactrim
Pyelonephritis Treatment
Ciprofloxacin or Bactrim
BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) Treatment
Alpha blockers like tamsulosin; use Terazosin if the patient also has hypertension (HTN).
5-Alpha Reductase Inhibitors (5-ARIs)
Medications ending in -ride (e.g., Dutasteride/Avodart, Finasteride) that reduce prostate size.
Erectile Dysfunction Treatment
PDE-5 inhibitors such as Sildenafil (viagra)
Epididymitis (
Ceftriaxone and Doxycycline for age
Gonorrhea Treatment
Ceftriaxone (Rocephin).
Chlamydia Treatment
Azithromycin or alt doxycycline.
Medications to avoid during pregnancy
ACE inhibitors (lisinopril, enalapril), ARBs (losartan, valsartan), statins (atorvastatin, rosuvastatin), isotretinoin, warfarin, tetracyclines (doxycycline), fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin), valproic acid, methotrexate, and NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen) in the third trimester; TMP-SMX (Bactrim) should also be avoided especially during the first trimester and near term.
