Republic Act No. 9497
Otherwise known as the Civil Aviation Authority Act of 2008.
Academic training
Training that places an emphasis on studying and reasoning designed to enhance knowledge levels of a particular subject, rather than to develop specific technical or practical skills.
Accountable executive
The individual who has corporate authority for ensuring that all training commitments can be financed and carried out to the standard required by the civil aviation authority (CAA).
Aerodynamic stall
An aerodynamic loss of lift caused by exceeding the critical angle of attack.
Airmanship
The consistent use of good judgment and well-developed knowledge, skills and attitudes to accomplish flight objectives.
Approved training organization (ATO)
An organization approved by and operating under the supervision of a Contracting State in accordance with the requirements of Annex 1 to perform approved training.
Competency
A combination of skills, knowledge and attitudes required to perform a task to the prescribed standard.
Instrument flight time
Time during which a pilot is piloting an aircraft solely by reference to instruments and without external reference points.
Quality assurance (QA)
All the planned and systematic actions necessary to provide adequate confidence that all activities satisfy given standards and requirements.
Major modification
An alteration not listed in the specifications that might appreciably affect weight, balance, structural strength, performance, powerplant, operations, or flight characteristics.
Maintenance release
A certification confirming that the maintenance work to which it relates has been complied with in accordance with the applicable standards of airworthiness, using approved data.
Overhaul
The restoration of an aeronautical product using methods including disassembly, cleaning, and inspection, and tested in accordance with approved standards and technical data.
Return to Service (RTS)
A document signed by an authorized representative of an AMO in respect of an inspection, repair, or modification on a complete aircraft, engine, or propeller after a Maintenance Release.
Article
Any item, including but not limited to, an aircraft, airframe, aircraft engine, propeller, appliance, accessory, assembly, component, product, or part.
Wet Lease
A lease where the aircraft is provided with crew.
Dry Lease
A lease where the aircraft is provided without crew.
Aerial work
An aircraft operation used for specialized services such as agriculture, construction, photography, surveying, patrol, search and rescue, and aerial advertisement.
Accident
An occurrence associated with the operation of an aircraft where a person is fatally or seriously injured, or the aircraft sustains damage or structural failure, or is missing.
Serious injury
An injury which requires hospitalization for more than 48hours within 7days, or results in a fracture of any bone (except simple fractures of fingers, toes, or the nose).
Technical Instructions
Refers to ICAO Document 9284 for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods By Air.
Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA)
An unmanned aircraft which is piloted from a remote pilot station.
Consignment
One or more packages of dangerous goods accepted by an operator from one shipper at one time and at one address, receipted for in one lot.
