Water Cooled Condensers
Condensers that use water as a cooling medium, often found in walk-in freezers and coolers.
Geothermal Units
Systems that transfer heat to the ground using the stable temperatures found beneath the surface.
Geology
The study of the earth, including its ground, rocks, and minerals.
Heat Pump
A device that transfers heat by reversing the refrigeration cycle, capable of heating or cooling.
Four Way Valve
The main component in a heat pump that reverses the flow of refrigerant for heating or cooling.
Compression Ratio
A comparison of the low side pressure to the high side pressure of a refrigeration system.
Hermetic Compressor
A type of compressor that is sealed to prevent leakage and is typically not serviceable.
Semi Hermetic Compressor
A compressor that is partially sealed and can be opened for servicing.
Rotary Compressor
A type of compressor that uses a rotational motion rather than linear motion.
Scroll Compressor
The most popular type of compressor currently, known for its efficiency and compact design.
Refrigerant Sludging
A condition where liquid refrigerant enters the compressor and disrupts its operation.
Superheat Spring
A component of the thermal expansion valve that adjusts the flow of refrigerant based on temperature.
Metering Device
A component that controls the flow of refrigerant to maintain the desired cooling effect.
Thermal Expansion Valve
A metering device that regulates refrigerant flow based on the temperature and pressure.
Capillary Tube
A type of metering device that restricts refrigerant flow without moving parts.
Orifice
A fixed opening used in refrigerant systems to control flow and reduce pressure.
Suction Line
The line through which low-pressure refrigerant gas returns to the compressor from the evaporator.
Discharge Line
The line that carries high-pressure refrigerant gas away from the compressor to the condenser.
