Migration
Refers to the movement of people from their native place to another place over a long distance along a period of time.
Permanent migration
When people migrate to another place for living for a long period of time, such as people settling in Saudi Arabia.
Temporary migration
Migration that includes seasonal movements, such as laborers moving to work in fields or the practice of transhumance.
Transhumance
The seasonal movement of pastoral people with their flock of animals to warmer pastures in winter and their return in summer.
Internal migration
When a large number of people migrate from one region or state in a country to another region or state within the same country.
External migration
Also known as international migration, this occurs when people move from one country to another country, which changes the population.
Population density
The metric changed by internal migration as people move between regions or states within the same country.
Unskilled workers
The group of people mostly seen in internal migration, often migrating from villages to towns or cities.
Professionals and skilled people
The groups of people mostly seen in external migration, such as Indians migrating to the USA or China.
