Interphase
What phase does a cell spend most of its life in?

Prophase
During what phase of mitosis does DNA condense from chromatin into chromosomes?

Metaphase
During what phase of mitosis do the sister chromatids line up at the cell's equator?

Anaphase
During which phase of mitosis do the sister chromatids separate and move to opposite poles?

Telophase
During which phase of mitosis does the membrane pinch in and the nuclear envelope reform? (last stage of mitosis)

Cytokinesis
What is the term for the division of the cytoplasm? (occurs after mitosis)

Cell Cycle
The two main parts are interphase and cell division (Cell Division = Mitosis + Cytokinesis)

Cell Division
Mitosis and Cytokinesis

Eyepiece
holds top lens; contains a magnifying lens (10x)

Arm
Supports the microscope, you wrap your hand around this to help carry a microscope (the other hand supports the base)

Revolving Nosepiece
holds objectives, turns to change magnification

Coarse adjustment
moves stage up & down, brings objects into focus

Fine adjustment
moves stage up & down slightly, brings objects into focus, use w/ high power

Stage
holds slide/specimen

Diaphragm
Controls amount of light allowed to reach the specimen through the stage openint to the eyepiece

Base
Supports the microscope, you put your hand under this to carry the microscope (along with wrapping the other hand around the arm)

How do you carry a microscope?
One hand around the arm, one hand under the base of the microscope

Chromatin
DNA; thin thread-like form (during Interphase)

Prokaryotic DNA
Located "floating" in the cytoplasm; called a nucleoid; found in a loop

Eukaryotic DNA
Located in the nucleus; found in strands
