Sepak Takraw
A specialized net-court sport indigenous to Southeast Asia that integrates volleyball strategies, association football motor skills, and badminton court dimensions.
Sepak
The Malay word meaning "to kick."
Takraw
The Thai word meaning "the woven ball."
Regu
A competitive team comprising three players each who compete on a court bisected by a net.
Roll Spike
A complex biomechanical maneuver involving a mid-air rotation where the player’s feet reach an elevation significantly above the net height, with ball velocities exceeding 95km/h.
ISTAF
The International Sepak Takraw Federation, formed in 1992 as the world governing body of the game.
ASTAF
The Asian Sepak Takraw Federation, founded in 1965 as the governing committee of the sport.
Sejarah Melayu
The Malay Annals which historically documented the sport as a leisure activity for the royal court and aristocracy in the 15th-century Malacca Sultanate.
Sepak Raga
The ancestral form of the game played in circular formation where participants used a rattan sphere to demonstrate individual dexterity and collective coordination.
Sepak Raga Jaring
The modern net-based format of the sport that emerged during the transition from the traditional circle format in the mid-20th century.
Sipa
The traditional national sport of the Philippines, meaning "to kick," which utilized a washer-like object with colorful threads or a wicker ball.
Cầu Mây
The local name for Sepak Takraw in Vietnam, literally translating to "rattan ball."
Chinlone
A traditional version of the sport in Myanmar that focuses on aesthetic beauty and a non-competitive "flow" state rather than scoring.
Proprioception
The body's ability to sense its position in space, which is enhanced by the specialized motor demands of Sepak Takraw.

Tekong
The designated server positioned in the back of the court within the service circle responsible for initiating play.
Killer (Striker)
The offensive specialist positioned in the front-left or front-right side of the court responsible for executing volleys and spikes.
Feeder
The agile player responsible for maintaining ball control and "setting" or "feeding" the ball perfectly for the striker.
Service Circle
A circle with a radius of 0.30m located 2.45m from the baseline where the Tekong must keep one foot during the serve.
Quarter Circles
Zones located at each side of the center line with a radius of 0.90m used as designated areas for the Feeder and Striker during a serve.
Sepak Sila
The Inside Kick, the most basic and essential kick used for ball control, performed with the flat inside of the foot.
Main Kepala
Heading; a technique used when the ball is too high for the legs, striking the ball with the forehead to save or attack.
Sunback Spike
An acrobatic jump-spike performed in mid-air where the player strikes the ball backward over their shoulders while their back is to the net.
Rally Point System
The modern scoring system where a point is awarded on every serve to the team that wins the rally, regardless of who served.
Deuce
A tie-break situation at 14−14 where the set is won by the first side to lead by two points or the first to reach 17 points.
