Mean Airway Pressure
The average pressure in the airway during breath cycles that affects oxygenation and ventilation.
PEEP
Positive End-Expiratory Pressure, a mode of mechanical ventilation that increases mean airway pressure by preventing airway collapse.
Oxygenation Problem
A clinical situation where the patient has inadequate oxygen levels in the blood.
Atelectasis
The collapse of part or all of a lung, commonly seen in post-operative patients.
Respiratory Rate
The number of breaths taken per minute, which can affect overall ventilation.
Inspiratory Time
The duration of inhalation during mechanical ventilation, influencing airflow and pressure.
Alveoli
The tiny air sacs in the lungs where gas exchange occurs, whose recruitment is vital for improving oxygenation.
Ventilator
A machine that provides mechanical ventilation by delivering positive pressure breaths to patients.
Hypoxemia
Low levels of oxygen in the blood, often requiring intervention such as increasing oxygen supply or PEEP.
Pressure Waveform
A graphical representation of airway pressure over time during mechanical ventilation.
