what is the photosynthesis equation
Water+carbon dioxide-sunlight/chlorophyll-glucose+oxygen
what is photosynthesis
The chemical reaction plants carry out to make their own food, using light energy to create glucose, taking place in the chlorophyll in the leaf
what factors affect the rate of photosynthesis
Tempreture
Light intensity
Carbon dioxide
list the parts of the leaf
Waxy cuticule
Upper epidermis
Palyside layer
Spongy mesophyll
Lower epidermis-contain stomata and guard cells
list the process completed to test a leaf for startch
Boil the leaf to kill it
Decolourise using ethanol
Wash to soften
Test with iodine
What minerals do plants need for healthy growth
Nitrates
Pottasium
Phosphates
what happens to the planet if there is a lack of nitrates
poor growth
what happens when their is a lack of pottasium in plants
Yellowing of the leaf
what happens when their is a lack of phospahets in the plant
Poor root growth
why is water important in photosynthesis
It is used for the transport of minerals and provides support by filling the cell vacuoles which push against cell walls. This keeps cells turgid and prevents cells becoming flaccid and wilting
what is transpiration
Water from the xylem evaporates into air spaces, some water is lost the stomata
what factors affect the rat of transpiration
An increase in light intensity, tempreture, humidity and wind spped
how do root hair help traspiration
Increase the surface area for absoprtion of water.
Minerals are activlet transported into the cell which allow water to be drawn by osmosis into the rot cells and them the xylem
