Glutes
Muscles of the buttocks (gluteus maximus, medius, minimus); responsible for hip extension, rotation, and stabilization.
Hamstrings
Group of muscles on the back of the thigh; responsible for knee flexion and hip extension.
Gastrocnemius
Main calf muscle; responsible for plantar flexion (pointing the toes) and assists with knee movement.
Quadriceps
Group of four muscles on the front of the thigh; responsible for knee extension.
Dumbbell Lunges
Works glutes and quadriceps (also engages hamstrings for stability).
Calf Raises
Works the gastrocnemius (calf muscles).
Squat
Works glutes and hamstrings.
Leg Press
Works quadriceps primarily, with glutes and hamstrings assisting.
Hamstring Curl
Isolates and works the hamstrings.
Rectus Abdominis
“Six-pack” muscle; responsible for flexing the spine.
Obliques
Side abdominal muscles; responsible for rotation and side bending of the torso.
Hanging Leg Raise
Works rectus abdominis (especially lower portion).
Side Bridge
Works obliques and core stabilizers.
Decline Crunch w/ weight
Works rectus abdominis with added resistance.
Saxon Side Bend
Works obliques
Cable Crunch
Works rectus abdominis.
Cable Rotation
Works obliques (rotational movement).
Rhomboids
Upper back muscles between shoulder blades; responsible for retracting the scapula.
Latissimus Dorsi
Large back muscles; responsible for pulling the arms down and back.
Erector Spinae
Muscles along the spine; responsible for extending and stabilizing the spine.
Pull-up/Chin-up
Works latissimus dorsi and upper back.
Superman
Works erector spinae (lower back).
Dumbbell Bent Over Row
Works rhomboids and latissimus dorsi.
Lat Pull-down
Works latissimus dorsi.
Seated Row
Works rhomboids and middle back muscles.
Pectoralis Major
Large chest muscle; responsible for pushing and bringing arms across the body.
Push-up
Works pectoralis major (also engages triceps and shoulders).
Dumbbell Press
Works pectoralis major.
Dumbbell Fly
Works pectoralis major (focus on stretch and contraction).
