Transaction Processing Systems (TPS)
Systems that record the daily routine transactions necessary to conduct business (e.g., payroll, sales receipts). Level: Operational.
Management Information Systems (MIS)
Provides reports on the organization's current performance to middle management to monitor and control the business.
Decision-Support Systems (DSS)
Uses data to help middle management solve unique, changing problems.
Executive Support Systems (ESS)
Uses judgment and data to help senior management with non-routine decisions.
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
Consolidates data from all departments into one central system.
Supply Chain Management (SCM)
Coordinates the flow of goods and information between the firm and suppliers.
Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
Manages data regarding customer interactions to improve sales and service.
Knowledge Management Systems (KMS)
Stores and shares employee expertise and company information.
Business Processes
The specific ways work and information are coordinated across an organization.
Business Intelligence (BI)
Tools and data used to help managers make more informed decisions.

Private intranet that is accessible to authorized outsiders.

Using social platforms to connect employees, customers, and suppliers.
